Dear reader,
How do you prepare the measuring points on fibre-reinforced plastics? What do you need to consider before selecting the adhesive? What requirements need to be evaluated in order to pick the right strain gage? What should you definitely remember with respect to stress peaks?
These and other questions about the most common strain gage applications are answered in a new technical article by HBM’s strain gauge experts.

Measure temperatures easily with TT-3/100
TT-3/100 is a temperature sensor based on strain-gauge technology, which is as easy to use as a conventional strain gauge. It is also ideally suited for measuring strain.
HBM’s new temperature measurement sensor is easily installed on undulating surfaces. Benefit by not having to install different types of sensors. Being strain gauge based, the TT-3/100 will provide you with extremely short response times, plus any resistance meter can be used with the TT-3/100 for data acquisition.
And best of all... the new TT-3/100 temperature sensor has a particularly attractive price-to-performance ratio.

Conceal your measuring points
Thanks to HBM’s new white SG200 silicone covering agent your measuring points no longer need to endure inquisitive inspection. In addition, it protects your transducers against harmful environmental influences that might distort your test results or reduce the service life of measuring points.
Benefits of SG200: | |
| |
| |
| | |
-
Durable protection of your measuring points
-
Non-transparent covering of your strain gauge installation
-
Good price/performance ratio

M408/M416 - Optical multiplexer from HBM
Connect up to 4x more sensor chains in optical strain gauge installations using M408 and M416 multiplexers
Optical measurement technology enhances the range of products for measurement in experimental stress and structural analysis. The system offers distinct advantages especially with regard to resistance to electromagnetic interference or in highly explosive environments.
HBM's M408 and M416 multiplexers now enable you to also benefit from the numerous advantages of "measuring with light" when working with many measuring points. You can minimise your wiring and installation effort, because a single HBM multiplexer increases the number of optical sensor chains - and measuring points - that can be connected by up to 4x.

HBM technology and service support construction of the first offshore wind farm in Germany
Efficient generation of electric power without polluting the environment is becoming increasingly important in times of high commodity prices and growing environmental awareness among consumers. HBM recently supplied and installed test and measurement equipment as part of the OGOWin research project for construction of a prototype offshore wind-power plant.
The challenge was to install the equipment in such a way that it would fully withstand the extreme stress which subsequent production models would be subjected to later, in rough seas. Both electrical strain gauges and optical sensors, based on fibre-Bragg gratings, were used.

HBM acquires nCode and SOMAT
In August 2008 HBM acquired the US-based company nCode International, a leading supplier of durability, test and analysis software, including the SoMat brand of mobile data acquisition instrumentation.
The new partnership perfectly complements HBM's existing product and service offer. The SoMat brand is renowned for rugged mobile data acquisition, and is especially suited for drive test applications.
